November, 2024

Dr. Magdeline Aagard, GHM Consultant, with Community Health Workers, Pare Diocese, Tanzania

GHM’s consultations are growing! Do you have an interest in making a difference on a global basis? Have you always wondered how you could use your knowledge and experience to assist others? These are our current Volunteer Consultant Opportunities:

Tanzania

Arusha Lutheran Medical Centre:

The purpose of the consultation is to improve the financial situation of the hospital and retain staff. Project objectives are to cut expenses, increase revenue, and become financially viable. The consultation team will be reviewing the hospital’s finances, determining how to cut expenses, developing and implementing income generation ideas, and developing and implementing ways to retain staff.

2 volunteer consultants are needed:

One individual should have hospital finance expertise. Experience working in a developing country would be beneficial but is not required. The second individual should have experience in hospital human resources management. Again, experience working in a developing country would be beneficial but is not required.

Arusha Lutheran Medical Centre, Tanzania

Uganda

The purpose of the consultation is to assist with the enhancement of the region’s leadership and management team to improve the quality and delivery of healthcare. In addition, the consultation will seek to strengthen the existing community health worker program. The consultation team, which will travel to Uganda, will be comprised of an individual with leadership experience, an individual with community health experience, and a physician from Uganda who lives in the United States.

2 volunteer consultants are needed:

One individual should have healthcare leadership experience. Having worked in a small hospital would provide more relevant experience than in a large hospital or academic center. This individual could be a hospital administrator, physician, nurse, or other health professional. The second individual should have experience in community health, particularly with community health worker programs. Experience working in a developing country would be beneficial for both individuals but is not required.

Time commitment:

Most projects are three years in duration. During the three years 1-2 visits to the partner site are anticipated each year. Zoom calls with the team will occur approximately monthly during the first year and quarterly thereafter. Costs associated with travel would be covered by GHM.
