Uganda

GHM’s developing partnership with the Lutheran Church in Uganda (LCU) is a new and exciting relationship. GHM Consulting has been tapped to assist with the enhancement of the government’s Community Health Extension Worker (CHEW) program in the Mayuge District. CHEW is a national initiative that aims to strengthen Uganda’s community health system. The GHM team, together with a team in Uganda, is working to enhance CHEW training in the Mayuge region, helping to develop and create training materials and assisting with evaluation measures for the program’s healthcare outcomes. The plan includes expansion to communities in the neighboring region where the LCU is active.

Located in eastern Uganda on the shores of Lake Victoria, Mayuge District has a population of more than 300,000 people, served by one general hospital, several dispensaries and a few rural health centers. Health promotion and prevention, through community health initiatives like the CHEW program, are critical components of Uganda’s health system, helping to make healthcare, and health itself, more widely accessible.
