Volunteer Finance Consultant in Tanzania for Arusha Lutheran Medical Center (ALMC)

Current GHM Consulting Needs: GHM Consulting is looking for an individual to volunteer as a hospital finance consultant serving with a team to support ALMC in Tanzania. The purpose of the consultation is to improve the financial situation of the hospital and to retain staff. Magdeline Aagard, Interim Director of GHM Consulting, will be convening the consultation team. The consultation team, which will travel to Tanzania, will be comprised of this individual with finance expertise and an individual with human resources management expertise. In addition, there will be team support in the U.S. as needed.


Expertise:  This individual should have a background in hospital finance. Experience working in a developing country would also be beneficial but is not required.

The project objectives are to:

  • Cut expenses, increase revenue, and become financially viable. To retain staff. To provide quality patient care services.


This will include: 

  • reviewing the finances and determine how to cut expenses,

  • developing and implementing income generating ideas,

  • developing and implementing ways to retain staff.


Time commitment:

This is a 3-year project. During the three years we anticipate 1-2 visits to ALMC each year. Zoom calls with the team will occur monthly during the first year and quarterly thereafter. Costs associated with travel would be covered by GHM.
