Love on the Move
GHM Consulting is on the move! As consultants, our role is to walk alongside our partners, to learn about the issues they face in serving the poor and marginalized. It is only through listening to the voices of our partners that we can effectively support them in their efforts to make quality health services possible for even the most under-resourced communities. We began several consultations in 2024 that are quickly moving forward.
Our first consultation of 2024 was with Phebe Hospital in Liberia, beginning last March with conversations with Dr. Ricks, Phebe’s Director/CEO. The consulting team completed their 10-day onsite visit in October and is now moving into the next phase, which will address the team’s findings and recommendations, prioritized with Dr. Ricks and her team. We are also building the team by adding a consultant with Board governance expertise.
On the other side of Africa, in Tanzania, we are beginning two consultations, one with Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC) and one with Arusha Lutheran Medical Centre (ALMC). KCMC is focusing on developing their quality improvement team. This consultation is being led by one of GHM’s Board members who has moved back home to the Democratic Republic of Congo. Another consulting team has been formed to work with Dr. Goodwill, the Director/CEO of ALMC, to address financial and human resource issues.
In addition to working with partners where we have long-standing relationships, we are developing a new relationship with the Lutheran Church of Uganda (LCU). Our consultation there will support the government’s community health worker pilot program to enhance their training. The plan includes expansion to communities in the neighboring region, where the LCU is active. We continue to actively seek volunteer consultants with a wide range of expertise. Please contact Dr. Magdeline Aagard at magdeline@ghm.org or 763-586-9590 if you, or anyone you know, might be interested.
